SOPHISTICATED REGIONAL FORM
At the Trafalgar Branch Library, in Johnson County, Indiana, VPS Architecture specified indigenous sandstone for the exterior façade, giving the library a warm, agrarian charm. The character is carried inside with the use of exposed timber structural framing.
Before the new facility was constructed, patrons of Trafalgar Library were accustomed to a tiny, 5,000 square foot building. The grand new project could have been overwhelming, by comparison, but a deliberately open plan makes the building comfortable, easy to navigate, and exceptionally inviting.
Trafalgar staff members work from one centralized circulation desk, making supervision a breeze. Separate quiet spaces, near a stone fireplace, for adult customers and for users of the children’s collection combine to make the interior welcoming and peaceful. A young adult’s alcove gives teens a place of their own.
