THE CENTRE
Funded by the county’s food and beverage tax, this project houses a clear-span exhibition hall equipped with water and compressed air for all vendor booths, a 2,600 seat auditorium, plus a ballroom and divisible meeting rooms.
Raising the auditorium roof from 35 to 90 feet, VPS Architecture designed a rejuvenated theater that includes two lower levels, a grand tier, and a balcony. VPS was challenged throughout the process to use resources wisely and produce optimum spaces for groups of four to over four thousand.
For an investment totaling $35 million, Vanderburgh County built this mix of facilities, including a fully operational commercial kitchen, for a wide range of events. The result is a flexible venue that can accommodate state conventions, local and regional meetings, and a variety of musical and theatrical presentations.
