HIGH PERFORMANCE DESIGN, SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITY

This project is an example of cooperative community disaster relief. When an F3 tornado with 200 mph winds struck the east side of Evansville in November of 2005, mobile home residents were left homeless. Habitat for Humanity came to their rescue.

The New Haven Subdivision has been created for residents displaced by the tornado. Of the sixty (60) Habitat homes constructed during the period from late 2006 to early 2009, forty eight (48) were for tornado victims. On a pro bono basis, VPS Architecture created the five prototypes used at New Haven.

Utilizing historic details and front porches, VPS designs have given variety and character to the subdivision that are not always prevalent in affordable housing developments. Incorporating recycled materials, bright colors and proven residential themes, VPS Architecture lent value and aesthetics to this community effort.
