SIMPLE IN CONCEPT, YET MODERN IN STYLE AND FUNCTIONDavidson Residence
The design of the Davidson Residence reflects the barns, silos and galvanized steel roofs of southwestern Indiana. The home is simple in concept, yet modern in style and function, using energy recovery ventilators for conservation combined with natural daylighting through light slots and glass blocks.
Framing timbers from nearby rural farms were utilized for major portions of the roof structure. Hardwood flooring comes directly from southern Indiana mills. Recycled products, along with rapidly renewable natural materials such as cork, bamboo and linoleum all combine to give the interior a natural richness and crisp feeling.
The indoor pool space is daylit by glass curtain walls and ridge skylights. Pool filtration consists of a bromine system that is much more benign and non-corrosive than common chlorine systems, allowing the use of steel trusses and standard builders’ hardware, rather than all stainless steel surfaces.
