INNOVATIVE DESIGN WITH AN ICONIC SHAPE

IN ASSOCIATION WITH RATIO ARCHITECTS OF INDIANAPOLIS

VPS Architecture teamed with RATIO, designers of the Indiana State Museum, to produce the design and documentation for this innovative project on the City of Evansville’s Riverfront. Adding over 10,000 square feet of floor space to the existing 55,000 square foot Evansville Museum of Arts, History & Science, the project featured a high-tech immersive theater, as well as a large, new atrium entrance and gathering space.

The creative design for the expanded museum was driven by the iconic shape of the unique, new 360-degree immersive theater and planetarium. Technological components for the immersive theater were imported from Europe and represented the latest in digital presentation and interactive media.

Also featured in the updated facility were new displays, educational and learning spaces, a brand new museum store, and additional offices for curators and staff. The old planetarium – located on the museum’s third floor – was converted into a radial Board Room with an oculus skylight. The Evansville Museum expansion contributed to the ongoing revitalization of downtown Evansville and represents another stunning piece for Evansville’s beautiful riverfront.
