SAFE AND ENGAGING ENVIRONMENT THAT FOSTERS THE LOVE AND RESPECT FOR THE PURSUIT OF LEARNING
The Richland-Bean Blossom School Corporation debated the configuration for a new elementary school for over fifteen years. VPS Architecture led community forums and focus groups until the community determined, very decisively, that two separate schools would be needed.
The adjoining schools, Edgewood Primary (grades K-2) and Edgewood Intermediate (grades 3-5), confirm the community’s vision, expressed in its mission statement. The schools are dedicated to “providing a caring, safe and engaging environment that fosters the love of learning, tolerance for all people and respect for the pursuit of learning.”
On a tight schedule, the facilities were simultaneously designed and constructed within 15 months. Giant crayon columns line the corridors. Science rooms and computer labs are flexible, accommodating a variety of learning styles. By designing the schools in a “figure 8”, classrooms, media center, cafeteria and corridors are naturally lit with ample daylighting.
