Oaklyn Library

In Association with Engberg Anderson

Oaklyn Library is a 2003 Indiana AIA Honor Design Award Winner. Located on a site that drops 50 feet from the roadway, the building is nestled into a hillside, with services on one main level, without stairs or elevators.

VPS Architecture is the architect of record for Oaklyn. Our library consultant was Engberg-Anderson, a specialist from Milwaukee. The most unique feature at Oaklyn is its natural meadow garden roof. The green meadow roof protects the premium roofing material beneath it from ultraviolet light and weather extremes.

The 18,500 square foot library features tall windows and a central clerestory light well to optimize daylight, a cozy reading area with digital fireplace, a community meeting room that is accessible after normal library hours, and a children’s reading area with computerized kinetic lighting and state of the art technology.
