After moving the major dining facility to the newly renovated Forest Quad Dining Hall, Read Hall’s Center Building was in need of a major face lift. Read Hall is an undergraduate residence hall of four wings (Beck, Clark, Curry and Landes) connected by a central hub. This central hub was subdivided into many rooms and areas that created confusing circulation patterns for users and visitors.
VPS Architecture refocused attention onto circulation and visual wayfinding, while enhancing the existing culture of Read Hall, a residence for many of Indiana University’s music students. Larger lounges with breakout areas were added, including an overhaul of the Hoosier Den lounge where students can perform small shows and concerts. The El Bistro Cafe was relocated to a more central location, and a Cream & Crimson coffee shop was added to the main lounge area.
